MK-677 (Ibutamoren) Side Effects

MK-677 is an orally active GH secretagogue. It stimulates GH release consistently over 24 hours, giving it a different profile from injectable GHRPs. Its main side effects relate to persistent GH axis stimulation and increased appetite.

Side effects to be aware of

Water retention and puffiness

Common

One of the most common effects, particularly in the first few weeks. Patients notice facial puffiness and mild ankle swelling. Reducing the dose usually helps. This effect tends to diminish with time.

Increased appetite

Common

Significantly increased hunger is very common. This can work against fat loss goals if diet is not managed. MK-677 is often used in protocols specifically aiming to increase caloric intake (muscle gain phases).

Fatigue and lethargy

Common

Some patients, particularly at higher doses, notice reduced energy or motivation. This is more pronounced at 25mg+ daily.

Joint pain or carpal tunnel symptoms

Uncommon

Sustained GH stimulation can cause carpal tunnel-like tingling and joint pain. Usually dose-dependent and resolves on dose reduction.

Blood sugar increase

Requires monitoring

MK-677 can modestly raise blood glucose, particularly in patients with pre-existing insulin resistance. Monitoring is important for this group.

Vivid dreams

Common

Frequently reported, related to GH pulse timing with sleep. Generally not distressing.

Monitoring

Blood glucose and IGF-1 levels should be monitored periodically on MK-677 protocols.
