Melanotan 2 Side Effects
Melanotan 2 acts on melanocortin receptors and is used for tanning and sexual health effects. It has a more pronounced side effect profile than most peptides, and patients should be well informed before starting.

Side effects to be aware of
Nausea
CommonVery common, particularly early and with higher doses. Often the main reason patients reduce their dose. Injecting before bedtime and starting with a low dose substantially reduces nausea.
Facial flushing and warmth
CommonFrequently reported in the first hour after injection. Usually mild and resolves within one to two hours.
Spontaneous erections (in males)
CommonMelanotan 2 has pro-erectile effects through the MC4 receptor. This is expected and is one of the primary uses of the compound. In some patients the effect is stronger than anticipated.
Skin darkening
CommonThe primary intended effect. Existing moles may also darken - any mole that changes in size, shape, or colour should be assessed by a dermatologist.
Headache
CommonMild headaches are commonly reported, particularly early in treatment.
Fatigue and yawning
CommonDrowsiness and frequent yawning are frequently reported and are related to the central melanocortin receptor activity.
Increased libido
CommonBoth male and female patients commonly report increased sexual desire. This is often a desired effect.
Monitoring
Any new or changing skin lesions, especially moles, should be evaluated by a dermatologist during treatment. Blood pressure should be checked at baseline.
