Cerebrolysin Side Effects

Cerebrolysin is a peptide mixture derived from porcine brain proteins and has been used clinically in Europe and Asia for neurological conditions for decades. It requires careful administration and physician oversight, particularly for IV protocols.

Side effects to be aware of

Injection site pain or discomfort

Common

Cerebrolysin can cause more injection site discomfort than peptide solutions. IM or IV administration is often more comfortable than subcutaneous for this compound.

Mild fatigue or sedation

Common

Some patients feel temporarily tired after administration, particularly early in the protocol. Usually resolves within a few hours.

Headache

Uncommon

Occasionally reported, usually mild and transient. Staying well hydrated before and after administration helps.

Nausea or dizziness

Uncommon

Can occur, particularly with IV administration or higher doses. Slow IV administration rate substantially reduces this.

Agitation or restlessness

Rare

Rarely reported. Some patients with pre-existing neurological conditions may experience transient agitation. Discuss any history of seizure disorders with your physician.

Monitoring

Neurological status should be assessed before and during the protocol. Physician supervision is particularly important for IV cerebrolysin administration.
